Twitter ban: Shame on you, tweeps blast NTA after first tweet in 222 days
Tweeps have lashed out against government-owned broadcasting television station Nigerian Television Authority following their welcome back tweet on Thursday.
The government-owned TV station tweeted for the first time after 222 days when the Federal Government lifted the ban on the micro-blogging platform, Twitter, on Wednesday.
WuzupNigeria reported that the ban which began on June 5, 2021 became active “effective from 12 am Wednesday, January 13, 2022,” after seven months, according to the Nigerian government.
“We Are Back After #TwitterBan Lifted,” NTA tweeted to its 1M Followers on Thursday morning.
Reacting to NTA’s tweet, one user @nacha_gold wrote, “Shame on you people. We did not miss you guys at all.”
Another tweep with the username, @calebpeter20, “Una no even dey useful before the ban so make una go back abeg.”
@adesope_adejoju questioned the usefulness of the broadcast station by saying, “Before the ban,what was your usefulness Unamused faceSmirking face?”
This is just as @kenechukwu06 advised NTA to keep observing the ban. He said, “Before the ban una no get content. After, I don’t expect much. Go back.”

WuzupNigeria reported that the lifting of the ban was announced by the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency and Chairman Technical Committee Nigeria-Twitter Engagement, Kashifu Abdullahi.
The statement read in part, “The Federal Government of Nigeria directs me to inform the public that President Muhammadu Buhari, has approved the lifting of the suspension of Twitter operation in Nigeria effective from 12 am tonight, January 13, 2022.
“The approval was given following a memo written to the President by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof Isa Pantami.”
