PDP lawmakers walk out on Gbajabiamila over Twitter ban
Members of the Peoples Democratic Party in the House of Representatives walked out of Tuesday’s plenary after Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, denied an appeal to lift the Federal Government’s ban on Twitter.
WUZUPNIGERIA reported that the Speaker mandated the committees on communication, justice, information and culture and national security and intelligence to immediately commence an investigation into the ban on Twitter within 10 days.
The Plenary soon turned rowdy when Gbajabiamila denied a point of order raised by the Leader of the PDP caucus, Kingsley Chinda, seeking the House to ask the Federal Government to lift the ban pending when the House carries out the probe.
Disgruntled PDP members, led by Chinda, walked out of the chamber after being shut down by several leaders of the House.
According to The PUNCH, Chinda had noted that the speaker’s rejection meant that the rights of Nigerians would remain suspended for the next 10 days.
Reacting, the Speaker, citing the Standing Orders of the House, stated that a matter that had been concluded by the parliament cannot be revisited for a debate.
