Tinubu hails Buhari for lifting ban on Twitter

Published

The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has hailed the regime of the President, Major General Muhammad Buhari (retd) for lifting the band on Twitter.

WuzupNigeria reported that the federal government lifted that suspension on the micro-blogging platform in the early hours of Thursday, January 13, 2022.

This is coming exactly 222 days (about seven months) after the government suspended Twitter activities in Nigeria on June 5, 2021, after the American tech giant deleted tweets uploaded by the president.

However, in a statement released on Thursday, Tinubu who recently informed Buhari of his intentions to contest become APC’s flagbearer in the 2023 presidential elections maintained that social media should not be misused.

Politics Nigeria quoted Tinubu as saying, “Social media – indeed all media – including Twitter, are a means for us to all communicate, report, share and engage with stories and each other; to enable economic and social empowerment for Nigerians. But they can be & sometimes are misused,” Tinubu said.

“I commend the FG for recognising these aspects and most importantly, concluding negotiations for the safe return of access to Twitter to the millions of Nigerians who use it, daily. Welcome back one and all!”
