Thomas Partey excluded from Ghana’s AFCON 2023 squad
The Ghanaian national team has opted not to call up Thomas Partey for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The decision, confirmed by Black Stars’ head coach Chris Houghton, is due to the Arsenal midfielder’s ongoing injury. Partey will remain with Arsenal for rehabilitation, as Houghton emphasized the cautious approach both the club and player are taking.
Houghton stated, “Arsenal will treat this injury with caution, and so will the player [Partey]. This is a big injury for him, the biggest injury he’s had.”
He further explained that, based on the information received regarding the recovery timelines and the need for caution, Partey’s rehabilitation will not align with the AFCON schedules.
Ghana, placed in Group E alongside Madagascar, Angola, and the Central African Republic, will proceed in the tournament without the services of Thomas Partey.
