AFCON: Osimhen missing as CAF unveils team of the tournament

The Confederation of African Football has unveiled the team of the tournament for the just concluded 2023 African Cup of Nations.

Nigeria and Ivory Coast dominated the selections, with three representatives each. Ola Aina, Troost-Ekong, and Ademola Lookman represented Nigeria, while Ivory Coast boasted Franck Kessie, Jean Michael Seri, and Ghislan Konan. 

Nigerian and Napoli striker, Victor Osihmen did not make the list despite his spectacular performance at the tournament.

Ronwen Williams, the captain of Bafana Bafana, was honoured as the Goalkeeper of the Tournament, while Nigerian captain William Troost-Ekong emerged as the Player of the Tournament. Emilio Nsue of Equatorial Guinea secured the Golden Boot accolade with five goals to his credit.

In recognition of their outstanding performances, CAF named Williams and Teboho Mokoena to the official Tournament Team. However, Khuliso Mudau, despite high expectations, was not included in the lineup.

The official Best XI also features players from the Democratic Republic of Congo, including Chancel Mbemba and Yoane Wissa, alongside Golden Boot winner Emilio Nsue, underscoring the diverse talent and competitive spirit showcased throughout the tournament.
