Simi, Adekunle Gold are true musicians – Ebenezer Obey

Published

Legendary juju musician, Evangelist Ebenezer Obey, has spoken about his recent collaboration with Nigerian singer and actress, Simisola Kosoko, better known by her stage name Simi.

WuzupNigeria reports that Obey, also known as Chief Commander, and Simi had teamed up to record a remix of one of his evergreen songs, Aimasiko.

In an interview with Sunday Scoop, the respected musician stated that he had a good time working with Simi, who is married to fellow singer, Adekunle Kosoko, aka Adekunle Gold.

He said, “Simi is my daughter and her husband is my son as well. She is a very talented artiste. She happened to have done (a remix) of one of my songs, Aimasiko, on her own. But, she took permission before doing it and it came out very well. So, we decided to do a version of the song together.

“She is a wonderful artiste and cool-headed person. She is very humble and knows what she is doing. Working with her was a good experience. She and her husband are true musicians.”

Reacting to Burna Boy’s Grammy Award win, the legendary musician said, “I feel so happy about it. At last, he and Wizkid have won Grammy Awards and it has brought me great joy.”

The Chief Commander will celebrate his 79th birthday in some days. Reminiscing about his years and success in the music industry, the ‘Iba Lo Ye Ka Se’ crooner declared he would spend the rest of his life praising God.

He said, “I feel so happy that God has added another year to my age. I am going to spend the remainder of my life thanking Him and showing gratitude for all He has done for me. I have every reason to be thankful.

“There have been death rumours about me more than four times. To have been in the music industry for over 60 years is worth thanking God for always. My plan was to have a low-key love celebration and use the day to seek the face of the Lord. Now, all plans are for my eightieth birthday which is just a year away. That’s when I plan to have a celebration of thanksgiving in a greater dimension. However, my birthday falls on Easter Saturday this year, so some of my children (gospel artistes, not biological) plan to organise a nine-hour praise programme to commemorate the day. So, I would just have a thanksgiving service in church on Easter Sunday.”
