Samuel L. Jackson to teach acting online
Iconic Hollywood star actor Samuel L. Jackson is preparing to teach an online class, in which he will deliver wisdom and pointers culled from playing more than 100 roles over his 45-year film career.
The course, available for a one-time $90 fee, is being offered exclusively through MasterClass, adding to its lineup of celebrity instructors who includes Martin Scorsese, Shonda Rhimes, Dustin Hoffman, Kevin Spacey and Steve Martin. Jackson’s class is slated to premiere sometime this winter, reports Variety.com.
Jackson will share lessons about how to break down a script, leverage their voice, embody their characters, improve their auditioning skills, and collaborate in the industry. The course will include more than 20 video lessons, a downloadable workbook, and the chance for students to ask Jackson questions which he’ll answer selectively.
The 68-year-old actor came to limelight in Spike Lee’s “Jungle Fever” in 1991, winning the Cannes Film Festival award for best-supporting actor for his performance. He then teamed up with Quentin Tarantino for perhaps his most legendary role: the f-bomb-dropping Jules Winnfield in “Pulp Fiction.” Since then, Jackson has starred in another five Tarantino films including “The Hateful Eight,” and has starred in films including “Shaft,” “A Time to Kill,” “Unbreakable,” “Die Hard with A Vengeance,” and Marvel’s “The Avengers.”
“In my MasterClass, I hope students learn that there’s no limit to what they can make-believe,” Jackson said in a statement. “By the end, they’ll be able to walk into a room, present their best self, and be happy with the result.”
“As one of the most successful actors of all time, Samuel L. Jackson has a tremendous amount to teach not only about the craft of acting, but also the practical side of building your acting career,” said MasterClass CEO and co-founder David Rogier.
MasterClass, founded in 2015, has released more than a dozen celebrity-led online courses to date. Investors include IVP, New Enterprise Associates, Javelin Venture Partners, Michael Bloomberg’s Bloomberg Beta, and Advancit Capital.
