Reactions as lady offers her kidney to Ekweremadu’s daughter

Published

Some Nigerians on social media have reacted to the video of a lady who offered to donate her kidney to the ailing daughter of the embattled former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu.

Punch Metro reported that Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, have been remanded in custody in the UK for conspiracy to harvest the organs of a minor, Nwamini David.

Ekweremadu and his wife allegedly facilitated David’s entry into the UK to transplant his kidney into their daughter, Sonia, who is suffering from kidney failure.

While appearing before a Uxbridge Magistrate Court in London on charges of conspiracy and organ harvest on Thursday, the prosecutor disclosed that David is a 15-year-old boy, adding that he was not aware that he was in the UK to donate a kidney until he went for a hospital appointment with the Ekweremadus.

However, a trending picture of David’s passport, however, indicated that he was born on October 12, 2000. This means he is 21 years old.

The passport with number B00569974 was issued in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, on November 5, 2021 and would expire on November 4, 2026.

As Nigerians await further findings from the British police, a lady identified as Martha Uche claimed to have been directed to donate her kidney in a dream. She also said she doesn’t want anything in return.

The video has generated a lot of reactions on social media as one tweep, @Corals007, advised Uche that “Before a donor donates their organ(s) to the patient, it has to be compatible. Probably, they couldn’t find a match for her within the family. Who knows?”

Another tweep @obaroogboru said, “Am sha not against your benevolence, but tell dem d operation should be done in Nigeria.”

Meanwhile, @DsmileO added, “I show sympathy for the daughter of Ekweremadu May God heal her.. But truth be told, you cannot see anyone who is financially stable to offer herself for things like this. Poverty is the reasons one will want to do stuffs like this. The politicians subjected Nigerians to poverty.”

@olanira09155404 said, “She shud think if the case was vice versa and she was the one who needed a kidney transplant, will the daughter of senator donate her kidney? The govt have so far taken the mentality of the masses away by induced hardship.”

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Immigration Service has said that it is investigating the authenticity of the passport obtained by David.

The service, it was gathered, is probing allegations that the travel document may have been fraudulently procured.

The acting Comptroller-General of Immigration, Mr Idris Jere, said, “We are investigating the passport and the issues surrounding it. We will come out with our findings soon.”
