Policemen who impregnate women out of wedlock should be dismissed – Okei-Odumakin

President, Women Arise for Change Initiative, a Nigerian women’s rights activist, Joe Okei-Odumakin says policemen who impregnate women out of wedlock should be dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force.

Mrs. Okei-Odumakin said this on Thursday on a PUNCH Live programme in the wake of the dismissal of an unmarried policewoman Olajide Omolola for getting pregnant.

Okei-Odumakin urged the Inspector-General Police Mohammed Adamu to sack all policemen who impregnate women out of wedlock, adding that the dismissal of Omolola was “pure discrimination”.

She also stated that, many male operatives in the Force have at one time or the other impregnated ladies whom they were not married to.

She stressed that the Force must respect the equality of rights, and accord the same regard to both genders in the Force.

Ms. Olajide’s dismissal has generated backlash from the public. Following the outcry, the IGP ordered an investigation into the case.
