Police rescue two kidnap victims, three still missing in Edo

At least two victims out of five who were kidnapped on Monday along Ubiaja Road,have been rescued, the Edo State Police Command has said.

SP Bello Kontongs, spokesman for the Command, in a statement said five victims were kidnapped in a Sienna bus belonging to a private company while on their way from Abuja to Asaba, Delta State.

The statement reads, “On the 24/01/2022 at 6:00 pm, the operatives of Edo State Police Command, got a piece of credible information that 10 armed men suspected to be kidnappers, emerged from the forest in Ewohimi along Ubiaja Road and open fire on a Sienna Toyota bus with five passengers en route Asaba from Abuja with Reg. No. AKD 499 YE driven by one Akintoye Babatunde ‘M’ belonging to a private company.

“On receipt of the information, the Divisional Police Officer, Ewohimi, CSP Gideon Azuonwu, immediately mobilised his team of police operatives/OPC to the scene and recovered the vehicle.”

“The team thereafter embarked on forest combing and rescued the duo of Akintoye Babatunde and Kabiru Abdullahi unhurt,” he added.

He further stated that bush combing is still on in an effort to rescue the other victims and arrest the fleeing hoodlums.

Kontongs stated that the Commissioner of Police, CP Philip Ogbadu, while thanking the operatives for their prompt response that led to the rescue of the two victims, further charged them to trace the criminals to their hideout and rescue the remaining victims as well as arrest the criminals, PUNCH reports.
