Obama to meet Trump today

President Barack Obama has invited President-elect Donald Trump to the White House for a Thursday meeting.

The meeting is aimed at planning and “ensuring a smooth transition of power,” White House press secretary Josh Earnest announced Wednesday morning.

Trump’s campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, confirmed on MSNBC that Trump looked forward to meeting with the president.

The meeting will be spectacular in many sense looking from the perspective of the shades both men have thrown at each other before and during the 2016 elections.

Trump vigorously promoted the so-called “birther” theory in 2011, which falsely claimed that Mr Obama was an illegitimate president because he was not born in the US, reports the Telegraph UK.

In 2011, Mr Obama ridiculed the then-businessman at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. It has been speculated that it was this very public humiliation that fueled deep desire for revenge within Mr Trump – and to run for the presidency himself.

More recently, Mr Trump claimed Mr Obama was the “founder” of the Islamic State terrorist group.
