A Mechanical Engineering undergraduate at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Oluwaseyi Funmilayo Akinlabi, has emerged winner of the beauty pageant tagged Face of Dega TV Reality Pageant 2019.
The competition which took place in Lekki, Lagos, at the DEGA mansion, lasted for thirty days.
The grand prize for the winner is N500,000 amongst other juicy packages.
The 18-year-old beauty who is an indigene of Osun State said:
“I’m so happy and feel very fulfilled as I always desire to be successful in all I do and everyone can be a winner even without wearing a crown, the person in the house at Dega mansion during the competition is still the same person after winning the crown and nothing has changed about me.
“I’m the youngest among the contestants and was without a cell phone to communicate with family and was unable to canvas for votes from friends but with the help of my fellow housemates, I was able to manage somehow. You can say that communication was the greatest challenge I encountered on the road to success in my DEGA journey.”
It was gathered that out of 25 runners up, Funmilayo is a new record-breaker with 8,106,512 votes which is over 60% gap against the 1st runner up.
The first edition held in 2018 and the grand finale which was a combination of award and fashion event, was attended by notable personalities including Nollywood actor and Lagos lawmaker Desmond Elliot.
Designers Getaway (DEGA) is a fashion and art event designed to promote local fashion/creative arts entrepreneurs and aspiring models through runway exhibition, career-business clinic and reality tv pageantry.
It also recognizes individuals and brands that support its objectives and have contributed to the growth of creative and fashion talents in Nigeria annually, through its award initiative “DEGA Achievers Awards.”
