Nigerian literati mourn Buchi Emecheta

Renowned Nigerian author Buchi Emecheta died in London on Tuesday at the age of 72.

Emecheta published more than  20 books, including Second-Class Citizen, The Bride Price , The Slave Girl, The Joys of Motherhood, Destination Biafra, Head above water and Naira Power.

She once described her stories as “stories of the world…[where]… women face the universal problems of poverty and oppression, and the longer they stay, no matter where they have come from originally, the more the problems become identical.”
Here are tributes and eulogies people gave in her honor as they remember her contribution to the Nigerian literature scene.
