Songbird, Deborah Oluwaseyi Joshua, popularly called Seyi Shay, has hit back at trolls who faulted her scathing commentary on a teenage singer at the Nigerian Idol audition show.

Shay, one of the judges on the show, was trolled on Twitter after she was captured criticising the teenager in a viral video.

“You have a good talking voice, and it comes out in your singing voice, but your performance, terrible. You’re never going to make money being a singer,” she told the nervous singer.

The comments generated backlash on Twitter but the singer did not appear to be swayed by such criticisms.

Instead, she chose to clap back at her critics, sarcastically saying they have an option to either hate or like her.

In reaction in her verified Twitter handle, Shay further noted that she was elated by the critics which made her one of the trending topics on Twitter.

“I’m feeling like #JudgeJudy right now. You either LOVE her OR you HATE her, and that’s quite ALRIGHT! Either way, Thanks for the #1 trend tweeps,” She wrote.

Her response, however, did little to quell the attack as Nigerians took to the comment section on her account to further bash her.

@G_Samito wrote: “You put in more effort into being savage tonight than you put into music career.

“I mean you were almost begging DJ Sose to laugh along with you even when he clearly wasn’t buying into your forced mockery. Such a shame

“Energy you could have used to draw better eyebrows Seyi!”

@IamAbiodunAA added that “Nobody asked you not to judge. But don’t k!ll young people emotionally. What you said tonight can make the young man do n undo. You k!lled his self esteem. He is 17 what he needs is encouragement. It’s a talent hunt not an interview for professionals!!!”

Amidst the rubble, @LoloKolex1 however opined that Seyi Shay’s critics “are getting it wrong.”

He continued, “The guy has 2 options to dis criticism, either he let it serve as motivation to prove Seyi wrong or let d word weigh him down.

“So harsh word most time is a motivation but we are not ready 4 that topic, we want to be sugar coated 4 everytime.”
