Gunmen rob 25 residents with POS machines in Oyo
Residents of Alaafia Estate at Orogun area of Ibadan in Oyo State were reportedly disposed of their assets and money by a 20 man-gang who allegedly came armed with Point of Sale machines.
No fewer than 25 families were said to have fallen victims during the Sunday attack.
Among other things, the gunmen were said to have carted away the residents' money and valuables.
PUNCH reported that the hoodlums visited each household using the POS machines to transfer money from the accounts of victims who claimed to have no cash.
The hapless residents recounted how they were made to part with their Personal Identification Numbers while they watched the gang withdraw all they had from their accounts.
Some victims alleged that the robbers went away with their ATM cards when they found it difficult to transfer money from their accounts due to network failure.
The operation was said to have lasted from 11pm on Sunday to about 2am on Monday.
There were also reports that the armed robbers in annoyance damaged properties at House 25, where they accused some of the occupants of peeping at them when they came to operate in their previous visit to the estate.
Although the police were said to have stormed the area, it did little to stop the hoodlums who fled almost immediately.
When contacted, State Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, narrated that the police received a distress call around 3am and deployed some of its men to the location of the incident.
He stated that, "On sighting the policemen, the hoodlums fled the scene after they were thoroughly resisted. In the process, a pistol was recovered along with three cutlasses and a bag containing both male undergarments and SIM cards."
He, however, reassured that efforts were on to arrest the hoodlums.
