The Lagos State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers has re-elected Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, as its Chairman for another term.
Along with him, Alhaji Sulyman Ojora as Vice Chairman, Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle as Secretary and 28 other members of the executive committee were also returned unopposed on Thursday at the union’s 10th Quadrennial State Delegates Conference held at its headquarters in Agege.
The swearing-in ceremony was witnessed by Adejare Kembi, Principal, Excel Practitioners and other dignitaries from the national body of the union, the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, the Nigeria Labour Congress and others.
Akinsanya expressed his gratitude to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the national leadership of the union and other stakeholders for their support and solidarity during the crisis. He also thanked the union members in the state for their loyalty and patience.
He pledged to continue his reform agenda that has improved the union’s activities in the state and to provide more assistance to the union members.
Akinsanya also received commendation from Governor Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by a Director in the State Ministry of Transportation, Lateef Tiamiyu. The Governor praised Akinsanya’s exemplary leadership skills and his ability to transform the union’s activities in the state.
He also urged the union members to maintain peace and harmony and to cooperate with the government policies.
Itemoagbo, the Controller of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Lagos Office, described Akinsanya as a leader who is moving in the right direction. He lauded Akinsanya’s initiative of employing over 123 graduates to work in various units of the union and promised that the ministry would continue to partner with the union to create more employment opportunities.
Itemoagbo also advised the union members to work together for the progress of the union.
The Acting National President of the union, Alhaji Ore, congratulated Akinsanya and the other executive members on their re-election.
He said: “Those who have emerged victorious from this election must serve in such a way that demonstrates exemplary leadership, capacity and sacrifice. Both the leadership and followership must strive through a collaborative effort to turn the union’s fortune for the better.
“Those elected must carry others along. I therefore urge you all to within your limitations try as much as possible to run an open administration that will be devoid of victimization and committed to fairness, equity, and justice; so that unity and harmony will prevail amongst others and members of this great union at the various levels.”
