Man arraigned for theft of phones worth N650,000

The Police, on Tuesday, arraigned one Sunday Gabriel, 24, in a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court for allegedly breaking into an apartment and stealing three phones valued at N650,000.

Gabriel, of no fixed address, is facing a four-count charge of a break-in, forceful entry, stealing and escape from lawful custody.

The accused, said to break into the apartment through the ceiling, however, pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Insp. Ajaga Agboko, told the Court that the defendant committed the offenses on Jan. 12, at about 2:00 a.m, at No 2 Bala St., Itedo, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.

Agoko told the court that the accused broke into the apartment of one Mr. Umeokoli Kosisi, and stole two iPhone X and a Samsung S10, all valued at N650,000.

He added that the accused was not aware that Kosisi was in his apartment.

“Gabriel was about to escape with the complainant and his girlfriend’s phones that were plugged in and charging when he was caught.

“He was detained at the police station where he escaped, but was later re-arrested,” the prosecutor said.

Agboko said that the offenses contravened sections 48, 287, 350 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mrs T.A. Idowu, granted the accused bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Idowu adjourned the case until March 22, for further mention.
