Lagos police nab four suspected traffic robbers on Christmas eve

The Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command has apprehended four suspected traffic robbers during a patrol at MKO Abiola’s Gardens, Ojota, Lagos, on Sunday, 24 December 2023.

The spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, reported that the suspects were taken into custody after victims alerted RRS bike riders on patrol. The arrests occurred around 7:30 pm.

Items recovered from the suspects include three Android phones and an ATM card.

The arrested individuals are identified as Wasiu Olawale (23), an ex-convict released in May 2023; Adebayo Olatunbosun (20); Wale John (28); and Uche Ugwu (25), the alleged gang leader.

Hundeyin disclosed that five victims have already reported to RRS Headquarters, positively identifying the suspects.

The police spokesman stated that the suspects will face charges in court once investigations are completed.

The RRS, in a statement released on its official X handle, stated, “Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) on Christmas Eve arrested four suspected traffic robbers and recovered three android phones and an ATM card while on patrol at MKO Abiola’s Gardens, Ojota, Lagos.”

“The suspects were arrested at about 7.30 pm on Sunday after one of the victims alerted RRS bike riders on patrol of the area.”

“A diligent trail of the suspects by the police led to the arrest of three of them and the recovery of three android phones and an ATM card.”

“Five victims have reported at RRS headquarters where they have positively identified the suspects. The suspects are currently assisting the squad in its investigation.”

“They are to be charged to court as soon as investigations are completed.”
