The Chairman of Okehi Local Government Area in Kogi State, Amoka Monday, has declared a curfew across the council area, citing security concerns.

In a statement issued on Monday, Monday said the curfew was necessary to maintain peace and order, following the directives of the Kogi State Government and the Commissioner of Police.

“The curfew, which takes immediate effect, restricts movement and gatherings in designated areas. Anyone found loitering or assembling in restricted zones without clearance from the relevant authorities will be arrested and prosecuted,” the statement read.

The chairman stressed that his administration prioritises the security and stability of residents and warned against actions that could disrupt public peace.

“The safety of our people is paramount. We will not allow any situation that could jeopardise the peace and stability of our communities,” he said.

He explained that the curfew was a preventive measure to avoid any security breaches, adding that the local government is working with security agencies to monitor the situation and enforce law and order.

The curfew comes amid a broader effort by the Kogi State Government to regulate public gatherings, prevent misinformation, and maintain peace.

Residents have been urged to comply with the directive and cooperate with security agencies to ensure the safety of lives and property.

The administration also appealed to the public to remain calm and continue their daily activities within the law.
