Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has announced a 24-hour curfew starting immediately in response to the ongoing #Endbadgovernance protests.
The curfew was declared to protect lives and property after the protest turned violent.
Yusuf made the announcement at the Kano State government house. He explained that the protest, which began peacefully, was hijacked by hoodlums and thugs who engaged in looting and killing.
“The action became imperative to ensure full protection of lives and properties in the state,” he said. He also instructed all security agencies to enforce the curfew strictly.
In related news, the peaceful protest against bad governance in Kaduna turned violent on Thursday. According to reports, at least three youths were killed and several others were injured during the clashes.
An eyewitness described the situation in Kaduna: “We were marching peacefully and no one was carrying any offensive weapon. I think the security operatives near the Government House were threatened by our large number. Suddenly, a vehicle that they use in spraying hot water on protesters came speeding towards us from the Government House axis.”
