Ex-Oyo Gov Alao-Akala is dead
A former Oyo State Governor, Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala, has passed away on Wednesday morning in Ogbomoso.
He was 71-years-old.
The former Police officer was reportedly rushed to the Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso, Oyo State about an hour ago.
As of the time of filing this report, the cause of his death has not been disclosed to the public.
There has been no official announcement from the state government about his death either.
Alao-Akala served as the Deputy Governor of Oyo State from May 2003 to January 2006.
Following the impeachment of then incumbent Governor, Rashidi Ladoja, Alao-Akala was sworn into office in January 2006 and served for 11 months.
In December 2006, the impeachment was overturned by the Supreme Court and Rashidi Ladoja was reinstated.
Alao-Akala contested and won the governorship election in 2007 under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party and became the Executive Governor of Oyo state, serving a full term till May 2011.
