The Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Owerri, has suspended a lecturer, Okoroafor Ifeanyichukwu, for allegedly assaulting a male student, identified as Chidera.
According to the PUNCH, Ifeanyichukwu, a facilitator at the institution’s Technical and Entrepreneurship Development Centre, was seen in a viral video physically attacking the student during an entrepreneurship training session on Thursday.
In a letter with reference number FPN/TEDC/80/1, dated March 14, 2025, and signed by the Director of TEDC, Okoye P.C., the polytechnic informed him of his suspension pending the outcome of an investigation into the incident.
“You are hereby suspended from duty as a facilitator in the Technical and Entrepreneurship Development Centre pending the outcome of an investigation into the incident that occurred yesterday, March 13, 2025, at the site of your entrepreneurship training,” the letter read.
The viral video, which sparked outrage online, showed the lecturer slapping Chidera repeatedly before kicking him, causing him to fall. After the attack, Ifeanyichukwu walked away, visibly angry.
Following the backlash, the suspended facilitator has reportedly apologised to the student for his actions.
