Gabon ousted president’s wife jailed for corruption

Sylvia Bongo Ondimba Valentin, the wife of Gabon’s deposed president Ali Bongo Ondimba, has been jailed on corruption charges.

She had been under house arrest since late August after the military ousted her husband from power.

The coup was accompanied by allegations that the former head of state and his associates had manipulated election results.

Recall that Wuzup Nigeria reported that Sylvia Bongo Ondimba Valentin was charged on September 28 with multiple offenses, including money laundering, forgery, and falsification of records.

She has denied all the charges, and her lawyer has condemned the legal proceedings as arbitrary and illegal
