A 28-year-old man named Misbahu Salisu has been accused of poisoning his day-old baby girl to death because he had a preference for a male child.

The arrest was confirmed through a statement issued by Dr. Mujahid Aminudeen, the Deputy Commander General of Operations for the board in Kano.

Aminudeen revealed that the suspect had informed officials that he had given the baby a local insect killer known as Otapiapia.

To make matters even more horrifying, the suspect allegedly drugged the baby’s mother, Sa’ade, with a cup of tea containing sleeping tablets before committing the terrible act.

The motive behind this tragic incident was the suspect’s preference for a male child.

Aminudeen conveyed the suspect’s confession, stating, “The suspect confessed to the crime, saying he preferred a male child but his wife gave birth to a female, which prompted him to end the baby’s life.”

Following the arrest, the suspect has been handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.
