Veteran Nollywood actor Richard Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD, has attributed his youthful outlook and continued enthusiasm for life to his close association with younger people.
The 65-year-old movie star made this known during an interview, where he discussed how his interactions with the younger generation have influenced his lifestyle, work ethic and approach to everyday activities.
RMD explained that he intentionally surrounds himself with younger individuals, particularly in his workplace, because their ideas, attitudes and perspectives constantly expose him to new experiences and ways of thinking.
According to the actor, most of his staff members are considerably younger than him, with his oldest employee reportedly aged between 27 and 28.
Although he acknowledged that working with younger colleagues sometimes comes with disagreements, heated exchanges and occasional misunderstandings, he maintained that these interactions provide valuable learning opportunities.
He noted that even when their opinions appear unreasonable, he still finds something worthwhile to take away from their perspectives.
“Interacting with young people helps me retain my youthful energy. I think my oldest staff member is 28 or 27. I like to work with younger people. We fight, disagree and abuse each other, but even in their foolishness, I learn a lot of things,” he said.
The actor also identified his experience of becoming a father at a relatively young age as another factor that has helped him maintain an easy connection with younger generations.
He suggested that this experience has influenced his communication style, fashion choices and general approach to relating with people from different age groups.
Beyond the benefits of associating with younger people, RMD maintained that his chronological age has never been a reason to limit his ambitions or slow down his pursuit of personal and professional goals.
He explained that his daily routine is driven by the things he hopes to accomplish rather than constant reminders of how old he is.
“I don’t wake up saying I’m 65; I wake up just wanting to do things,” he stated.
RMD further emphasised that he does not believe physical limitations should automatically determine what a person can achieve, stressing the importance of maintaining a determined mindset.
For the veteran actor, staying active, embracing new experiences and remaining open to learning are essential to maintaining a positive outlook, regardless of age.
