An Upper Area Court in Nassarawa Gwong, Jos, on Monday sentenced a 19-year-old commercial tricycle operator, Jerry Bala to six months in correctional centre for intimidating and stealing from a woman.

A panel of two magistrates, Adama Galadima and Ishaq Danjuma, sentenced the defendant without an option of a fine, after he pleaded guilty to the two charges brought against him.

The panel said the judgment would serve as a deterrent to those who would want to indulge in such criminal acts.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Ijuptil Thawur, told the court that the case was reported at the Nassarawa Gwong Police Station in Jos on October 2, 2021, by one Chundung Steven, the complainant.

The prosecutor said that the complainant entered the convict’s tricycle, and on the way, the convict stopped and attempted to strangle the complainant.

“The convict made away with her bag, phone valued at N35,000, ten measures of rice, and a cash sum of N8,170,” the prosecutor said.

Thawur said that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 237, 377 and 272 of the Plateau State Penal Code Law.
