Nigerian music star Burna Boy, born Damini Ogulu, is under fire from fellow Nigerians after a video surfaced showing him interacting with Seyi Tinubu during a recent outing.
The incident has sparked controversy, especially in light of the ongoing political climate and recent criticisms directed at the Tinubu family.
What triggered public outrage was Burna Boy’s engagement with Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu, during a nightclub appearance also attended by American actor Michael B. Jordan.
Many Nigerians viewed the interaction as insensitive, particularly following a heated dispute between Seyi and veteran rapper Eedris Abdulkareem.
Eedris Abdulkareem had openly criticized both President Tinubu and his son over Nigeria’s economic struggles and government policies. The rapper released a protest song titled “Tell Your Papa,” which has since been banned by the National Broadcasting Commission.
According to Abdulkareem, the track was a direct response to Seyi Tinubu’s statement calling his father “Nigeria’s greatest president.” The rapper used the song to demand accountability and highlight the nation’s worsening economic and security challenges.
In the now-viral footage, Burna Boy is seen at a nightclub speaking with Michael B. Jordan when Seyi Tinubu walks over. The three exchange brief pleasantries, with much of the attention reportedly centered on the American actor. Despite the short interaction, the clip has ignited widespread criticism of Burna Boy’s perceived alignment with political elites.
