Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has appealed to residents and political actors to keep the Davido Osun election campaign peaceful. He warned against violence, intimidation and attempts to undermine the choice of voters.

According to The Punch, the singer made the appeal in a post on his X account on Friday as political activities intensified ahead of the August 15 governorship election. He urged candidates and their supporters to respect the verdict of the electorate. This should happen regardless of the eventual outcome.

Davido told residents that their votes represented their voices and should be allowed to count without fear or interference.

“Let us reject violence, intimidation, provocation, and every act capable of disrupting the peace of our communities,” he wrote.

He also called for a free and fair contest, declaring: “LET THE OSUN PPLE DECIDE! FREE AND FAIR! VOTE NOT FIGHT!”

Davido Osun election appeal comes with support for Adeleke

While calling for a peaceful process, Davido made no secret of his preferred candidate in the election.

The singer threw his weight behind his uncle and incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke. Adeleke is seeking another term on the platform of the Accord Party.

“ACCORD IS THE PARTY! ADEMOLA ADELEKE IS THE CHOICE!” Davido wrote.

His latest message comes amid an increasingly heated campaign. Political parties and candidates are stepping up efforts to win voters across the state.

Adeleke is expected to face major opposition from the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji. He will also face other candidates in the governorship race.

Davido has previously appealed directly to those contesting the election to accept the decision of Osun voters. He also warned them to avoid actions that could threaten the credibility of the process.

He has maintained that the electorate should be given the freedom to choose the next governor without intimidation or interference.

Davido takes active role in uncle’s campaign

Davido’s involvement in Osun politics is not new. The award-winning singer played a visible role in Adeleke’s successful 2022 governorship campaign. He used his popularity to mobilise support, particularly among younger voters.

Adeleke eventually defeated then-governor Gboyega Oyetola of the APC to win the election.

Four years later, Davido has once again become actively involved in his uncle’s political campaign.

The singer has joined campaign activities connected to the Accord Party. He has continued to use his large social media following to mobilise support for Adeleke’s second-term ambition.

Adeleke won the 2022 election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party. Later, he moved to Accord ahead of the 2026 governorship contest.

Davido warns against compromised election

Beyond campaigning for his uncle, Davido has repeatedly raised concerns about how the election will be conducted.

During a livestream with comedian and content creator Carter Efe, the singer warned that he would seek international attention if he believed the electoral process had been compromised.

Davido even mentioned United States President Donald Trump while discussing what he could do if problems emerged during the election.

His comments attracted widespread attention and further underlined how closely the singer is following developments surrounding the poll.

However, his latest message placed greater emphasis on peace. He urged residents and political supporters to avoid confrontation as election day approaches.

With campaigning entering a crucial stage, Davido’s message is clear. Political differences should not lead to violence. Voters, rather than intimidation or force, should determine who governs Osun State for the next four years.
