Big Brother has deducted N5 million from the Big Brother Naija Season 11 cash prize. This follows repeated rule violations and accumulated transgressions by housemates, ultimately impacting the BBNaija prize money for this season.
According to Big Brother Naija, the Show Ya Sef housemates entered Week Four with the full N100 million cash prize intact. However, their good run came to an end after Biggie ruled that repeated violations had become too costly to ignore, leading to a lower BBNaija prize money total.
Cash prize drops to N95m
The deduction reduced the cash component of the winner’s prize from N100 million to N95 million. This adjustment to the BBNaija prize money demonstrates the serious consequences of rule-breaking in the competition.
Big Brother had earlier warned the housemates that the N100 million cash prize was not guaranteed. In fact, it would fluctuate depending on their conduct and performance throughout the season.
Housemates are expected to protect the money through their teamwork, commitment, and participation in tasks and challenges. Moreover, their ability to meet Biggie’s expectations is crucial.
When they succeed, the cash prize remains untouched. Failure, however, attracts a N5 million deduction.
Week Four became the first time the housemates failed to protect the full amount.
Repeated violations cost housemates
Big Brother said the decision followed a build-up of transgressions and repeated breaches of the rules. This happened despite the entertainment provided by the housemates during the week.
The official scoreboard following the punishment showed N95 million protected, with N5 million lost.
The development produced mixed reactions inside the house.
Ricky appeared less concerned by the deduction and even suggested that another N5 million could be removed. This would force housemates to take the rules more seriously and stress the importance of the BBNaija prize money at stake.
Sheba, however, admitted that losing such a significant amount of money hurt because of how much was at stake.
Deducted N5m not completely lost
The N5 million deduction does not disappear from the competition entirely.
Under the Prize Money Fluctuation system introduced this season, every amount deducted from the winner’s N100 million cash prize is transferred into the Most Influential Player of the Week prize pot.
The MIPOW scheme allows housemates to rate one another every week based on their influence, effort, and entertainment value in the house.
Housemates who emerge as MIPOW winners during the season will eventually share the accumulated money in that separate pot.
This means poor collective performance can reduce the eventual winner’s cash reward. At the same time, it increases the amount available to influential housemates.
N100m cash part of record prize package
BBNaija Season 11 began with a record N160 million overall prize package.
The package includes the N100 million cash prize as well as a brand-new SUV and other rewards.
It is the N100 million cash component that is subject to Big Brother’s Prize Money Fluctuation system.
With the first N5 million now removed, the housemates head into another week. Now, they know further violations could reduce the winner’s cash prize even more.
The challenge for the Show Ya Sef house is now clear — protect the remaining N95 million. Otherwise, they risk watching the prize continue to shrink. Ultimately, the BBNaija prize money remains a key motivator for the housemates as the season progresses.
