Alfa stabbed to death while committing rape
A woman has been arrested by the police for allegedly stabbing to death a 52-year-old cleric, Taofeek Olumoro, who allegedly tried to rape her.
25-year-old Gift Daniel had gone to visit her boyfriend at No. 3 Bajulaiye Street, Fadeyi, Lagos but reportedly met his absence.
The deceased, popularly called ‘Alfa’, who was a neighbour to the suspect’s boyfriend, had invited her into his room to wait for the boyfriend.
It was learnt that Olumoro, who attempted to rape Daniel, stabbed her in the thigh in the process.
Daniel, in self-defence, got hold of the knife and stabbed the deceased five times, which led to his death.
She was subsequently arraigned before an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Daniel, whose residential address was given as No. 1 Alhaji Aleke Street, Bariga, Lagos, was charged with one count of murder.
She pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Oladele Adebayo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on February 16, 2019, around 10pm, using a kitchen knife.
“The defendant was lured into the deceased’s room, where he tried to forcefully have sexual intercourse with her, and in her defence, she stabbed him fatally in the chest,” the prosecutor stated.
He said the offence contravened Section 222 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State and carried a death sentence for the convict.
The presiding magistrate, Mrs A. Kusanu, said the case file should be duplicated and forwarded to the office of the state’s Director of Public Prosecutions for advice.
Kasanu, however, ordered that the suspect should be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the case till March 27, 2019, for the DPP’s advice.
