Yahoo Boy chases Islamic cleric with soldiers over failed prayers

Published

A suspected “Yahoo boy” has allegedly gone after an Islamic cleric he hired for a prayer job after the prayer failed to work as expected.

The matter gained public attention when some soldiers allegedly raided a block factory owned by Hamzat at Bankole Estate, Magboro, in Ogun State, and made away with his Toyota RAV 4 car.

Hamzat, while narrating the incident, told PUNCH Metro that some soldiers, who were five in number and came in a pick-up van, demanded to see his younger brother, Sulaimon, a cleric.

He stated that the issue started when he linked up a suspected Yahoo boy, his girlfriend’s brother, with Sulaimon for some prayers. The fraudster was satisfied with the first prayer and opted for more, so Sulaimon directed him to another cleric in Agege, Lagos.

After my brother introduced him to another Alfa for special prayer, maybe he was duped (or he didn’t get the expected returns after payment), I don’t know. My brother also said he did not know what transpired between the boy and the other Alfa.

“On Tuesday, I was called by someone that some people were at my block factory and they wanted to buy blocks. So I rushed down. I told the person the price of my blocks. In the course of that, I just saw some soldiers coming into the estate. They came to me and said they wanted to see me. I asked them what happened, but they started grabbing me. He said

He added that the soldiers took him to their barracks at Ebute, where they allegedly extorted N10,000 from him and held his car until he would bring his brother.

Hamzat noted that one of the soldiers kept calling and asking him to produce his brother.

The 81 Division of the Nigerian Army spokesperson, Lt Col Ayeni Olabisi, said he would look into the matter.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, said the case was under investigation.
