Adamawa locks down two councils over violence

Adamawa State has locked down Lamurde and Guyuk Local Government Areas following the violence that troubled communities around the councils on Tuesday night.

The State Government announced a 24-hour immediate curfew on the councils in a statement on Wednesday night.

The communities particularly affected by the curfew are Lafiya town, Boshikiri, Zakawan, Masermei, Dumna Zerbu, Dumna Burthi, Dumba Dutse, Duwu and Tsalbu in Lamurde and Guyuk local government areas according to the statement by Humwashi Wonosikou, Press Secretary to Governor Ahmadu Fintiri.

A communal clash had caused much havoc in the communities for which Deputy Governor, Chief Crowther Seth, paid an assessment visit on Wednesday morning.

The government said it was regrettable that the fresh violence occurred just weeks after the Tigno crisis in the same Lamurde LGA,.

“Government expects that communities that have been living peacefully for decades should share so much in common to be able to give peace a chance,” the statement said.

The government further advised citizens to exercise restraint and refrain from violence.
