The Adamawa State House of Assembly has approved the Tenancy and Recovery of Premises Bill, a legislative measure designed to define the rights and obligations of landlords and tenants across the state.
The legislation introduces a legal framework for regulating landlord-tenant relationships, tenancy agreements, and the recovery of premises.
It also provides mechanisms for resolving disputes between both parties, with the objective of protecting landlords and tenants from unfair treatment while reducing the incidence of conflicts.
The bill was passed after lawmakers adopted the report of the House Committee on Housing and Urban Development.
The report was presented by the committee’s chairman and member representing Ganye Constituency, Misa Musa.
Following the bill’s passage, Speaker Bathiya Wesley directed the Clerk of the House to prepare a clean copy of the legislation for onward transmission to Governor Ahmadu Fintiri for consideration and expected assent into law.
