Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze could remain sidelined until 2027 after undergoing surgery to repair a ruptured tendon in his left hip.
AC Milan confirmed that the Nigerian international successfully underwent the operation in London and has returned to Italy to begin rehabilitation.
The injury has interrupted Chukwueze’s attempt to re-establish himself at the Italian club following a season-long loan spell with Fulham.
AC Milan confirms successful operation
According to the club, the surgery was performed by Professor Ernest Schilders in the presence of Milan doctor Stefano Mazzoni.
The procedure repaired damage to the tensor fascia latae muscle in the player’s left hip.
“The footballer will return to Italy, where he will begin his rehabilitation process,” Milan stated.
Although the club did not announce a return date, reports in Italy indicate that Chukwueze may not be fit to resume training before December.
There are also concerns that his recovery could extend into the new year.
Chukwueze’s season disrupted
The 27-year-old winger had made seven Serie A appearances and registered two assists before suffering the injury.
He also featured in the Europa League during the ongoing campaign.
Chukwueze returned to Milan after spending last season on loan at Fulham, where he made 23 Premier League appearances, scoring three goals and providing four assists.
The London club reportedly declined to activate the purchase option in his loan agreement.
Super Eagles await recovery updates
The injury comes during a period when Nigeria is preparing for further international engagements.
Chukwueze’s rehabilitation progress will determine when he can return to competitive football.
Neither Milan nor the player’s representatives have announced a confirmed date for his return.
For now, the winger’s immediate priority will be recovering from the surgery and regaining full fitness.
