The Lagos State Government has warned operators of spas and beauty businesses against unsafe practices that could expose customers and workers to preventable injuries and health risks.
According to The PUNCH, the warning was issued by the Lagos State Safety Commission during a training programme organised to strengthen workplace safety standards across the beauty industry.
The commission said businesses must prioritise hygiene, hazard identification and appropriate risk-control measures in their daily operations.
Lagos demands improved safety standards
The commission’s Director of Administration and Human Resources, Awolesi Ademola, delivered the message on behalf of its Director-General, Lanre Mojola.
He explained that beauty professionals must consider workplace safety an essential part of service delivery rather than an optional responsibility.
The programme, themed “Safe Hands, Safe Spaces: Building a Zero-Harm Culture in the Spa and Beauty Industry,” focused on preventing accidents and improving safety awareness.
According to the commission, operators must regularly assess hazards associated with their equipment, procedures and working environment.
Experts discuss workplace risks
The Lagos State Chairman of the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria, Olusola Ogunleye, delivered a presentation on identifying hazards and controlling risks during spa operations.
The Chief Medical Director of Skintetics Clinics, Chuka Imo, also discussed occupational health and ergonomic safety.
His presentation focused on protecting beauty professionals from work-related injuries and other health challenges.
Commission urges businesses to apply training
The commission’s Spa, Gym, Cinema, Parks and Gardens Unit encouraged operators to implement the lessons from the programme.
Officials said improved safety standards would help protect customers, employees and business owners.
The state government reaffirmed its commitment to promoting safer workplaces across different sectors of Lagos’ economy.
The warning forms part of efforts to improve professional standards and reduce preventable incidents in beauty and wellness establishments.
