Como crush Man United 4-1, deepen Carrick crisis

Como handed Manchester United a humiliating 4-1 defeat in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, extending the English club’s winless run to seven matches.

According to Reuters, Argentine midfielder Nico Paz scored twice and provided an assist as Cesc Fabregas’ side dominated the encounter in Italy.

The defeat increased pressure on United manager Michael Carrick, whose team has struggled for form across domestic and European competitions.

Como stun Manchester United with early breakthrough

Como made a flying start when Paz opened the scoring in the second minute, curling an impressive effort past goalkeeper Senne Lammens.

United struggled to respond as the Italian side controlled possession and repeatedly exposed weaknesses in the visitors’ defence.

Harry Maguire headed narrowly wide from a Bryan Mbeumo delivery, while Tasos Douvikas continued to threaten at the opposite end.

Carrick introduced Amad Diallo and Carlos Baleba at halftime, hoping to change the direction of the contest.

However, Como doubled their advantage in the 49th minute when Paz released Douvikas, who finished confidently beyond Lammens.

Paz struck again eight minutes later after dispossessing Baleba near the touchline.

The Argentine surged forward before driving a left-footed shot into the net, completing his brace and putting Como firmly in control.

Como deepen Carrick’s troubles with fourth goal

United’s defensive problems continued in the 76th minute when Jacobo Ramon headed home a cross from substitute Kaiki Bruno.

The fourth goal effectively ended any hopes of a comeback as United struggled to contain Fabregas’ attacking side.

Joshua Zirkzee eventually pulled one back in stoppage time after converting a delivery from Diallo.

However, the late goal did little to ease United’s embarrassment or prevent another damaging defeat.

The result left Carrick facing renewed scrutiny, with United recording their seventh consecutive match without victory.

United remain on three points from their opening three Champions League fixtures, leaving them needing better results to strengthen their qualification hopes.

The Red Devils will now turn their attention to Sunday’s Premier League clash against Bournemouth at Old Trafford.

Carrick will hope his players can respond positively and end their disappointing run before their next European assignment.
