Davido’s manager, Asa Asika, has described the singer as one of Nigeria’s most influential young personalities, arguing that few people under the age of 40 can rival his reach and cultural impact.
Speaking about his client’s influence, Asika said Davido commands an exceptional level of public attention. “Davido is probably the most influential person from Nigeria below the age of 40, in my opinion,” he said. He also pointed to the singer’s strong presence across social media, describing him as “probably the most followed artist on almost every social media platform,” with “no argument.”
Asika said he sometimes jokes with Davido about the enormous influence he wields. “You do know you’re kind of like the president of Nigeria,” he recalled telling the singer.
The music executive also spoke about Davido’s ability to move past controversies that, in his view, could have had lasting consequences for other public figures.
“There are some things I’ve seen Davido do and be like, if someone else did this, they would never ever get back from this. Sometimes I’m like, yeah, it’s over. I don’t know how we’re going to bounce back from this. And everybody wakes up tomorrow morning and they’re like, yeah, nothing happened,” he said.
Asika further highlighted the commercial value of Davido’s celebrity status, describing the singer as “a walking billboard” because of the volume of interest from brands seeking to associate with him. “I have emails from brands being like, I just want Davido to like hold this bottle for 20 minutes or put in his video,” he said. He added that some companies have also contributed financially to Davido’s music videos in exchange for the visibility generated by the singer’s involvement. “I haven’t paid for music videos with our own money in ages,” Asika revealed.
According to Asika, Davido remains selective when considering brand partnerships, preferring collaborations that align naturally with his image. He cited partnerships with Martell, Puma and a Chinese phone manufacturer that entered into a 10-year agreement with the singer, even though Davido does not personally use the company’s phones.
The partnership has also expanded Davido’s visibility across the continent, with his image appearing on prominent billboards in several African cities, including Abidjan, Mauritius and Tanzania.
