American R&B singer Trey Songz has filed a lawsuit against a concert promoter in Texas, seeking more than $500,000 in damages over a postponed show that cost him lost revenue and damaged his professional reputation.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, the singer’s production company entered into an agreement in April with promoter Darryl Austin for a performance scheduled at Will Rogers Auditorium in Fort Worth on August 8.
Trey’s company claims Austin made the first required payment but failed to make the second installment due July 8. The promoter then requested to postpone the concert, but the singer’s team refused the request, demanding payment instead, believing the promoter had not done enough to market the show despite repeated offers of assistance.
The lawsuit alleges that despite Trey being ready and willing to perform, Austin went ahead and postponed the concert anyway. Fans were reportedly notified by Ticketmaster that the event had been pushed back, without any explanation regarding who made the decision.
Beyond the unpaid performance fee, Trey’s company is seeking damages for lost meet-and-greet revenue, damage to professional goodwill and harm to future earning potential. The singer is asking for more than $500,000 in damages, plus legal costs and any other relief the court deems appropriate.
Trey Songz, known for hits including “Say Aah” and “Bottoms Up,” has not yet publicly commented on the lawsuit. As of the time of filing this report, the promoter had not issued a response to the allegations.
