Afrobeat superstar Davido has explained why he is focusing on Osun State despite just dropping a new album .
For some days now, the singer has been actively campaigning for his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, and trading words with trolls over his involvement in the political campaign.
During a recent rally in Osun State, the singer noted that he had just dropped his album yet had to come to Osun State. Davido said he is focused on the state so he can see the situation for himself because he genuinely cares about his people .
“I just dropped my album, but I had to come down and focus on Osun State so I could see the situation myself because I genuinely care about my people,” he said .
The singer had earlier announced that he would be stepping away from album promotion to campaign for Governor Adeleke, telling his followers that despite being deep in his Oriade album work, the campaign trail was calling .
In an earlier statement on social media, Davido wrote: “Been so busy with my album and music as it should be but tomorrow we hit Osun for @AAdeleke_01. We no dey fear anything, we dey your back, we believe in God. 4+4, any intimidation nah for una back pocket” .
Davido has taken a more active role in the political campaign, having been appointed Head of Youth Mobilisation for the re-election campaign under the Accord Party . He has also inaugurated a 43-man youth committee, christened the Imole Youth Campaign Mobilisation Team, to drive the grassroots campaign .
Speaking before unveiling the team, Davido urged members to embark on door-to-door campaigns, saying: “I have put my musical career on hold for two months to come and work for my uncle. Not only because he is my uncle, but because he is doing a good job, and he has major things to do—the job is not done”.
The singer has also warned that he would involve United States President Donald Trump if anything went wrong during the election . Speaking during a livestream with comedian Carter Efe, he said: “I’ll tag Trump, I’ll call Trump, everybody. If they still don’t see anything, I’ll go in front of the White House and say, ‘Help us.’ They think it’s a joke”.
Davido has been a prominent supporter of his uncle’s political ambitions since 2022, when he campaigned for Adeleke’s first election victory over Gboyega Oyetola . The singer has also been appointed Chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund, a role aimed at mobilising resources to drive sports development in the state.
The Osun governorship election is scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026, with Governor Adeleke seeking a second term under the Accord Party after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party.
