Nollywood mourns as veteran actor Patrick Okoye ‘Energy’ dies

The Nigerian entertainment industry has been thrown into grief following the death of veteran Nollywood actor Patrick Okoye, widely known by fans and colleagues as “Energy.”

News of the actor’s passing emerged on social media on triggering an outpouring of condolences from fellow actors, fans and well-wishers who expressed shock over the loss.

Reports indicated that Okoye died in the early hours of Thursday, May 28, 2026. Confirmation of his death also appeared on his official Instagram page.

“Rest in peace, legend,” the post read.

Aside from his contributions to Nollywood, Okoye was also said to have served as a lecturer at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, where he reportedly influenced and mentored many students through his academic career.
