Yar’Adua varsity approves promotion of 19 professors

The Governing Council of Umaru Musa Yar’Adua University, Katsina State, has approved the promotion of 19 lecturers to the rank of professor.

This was announced in a statement issued in Katsina on Saturday by the Assistant Chief Information and Protocol Officer in the Office of the Vice Chancellor, Nabila Dahiru-Anche.

According to her, the decision followed the council’s 56th meeting, during which a total of 113 academic staff were promoted, effective October 1.

She noted that the meeting, held on November 27, also formally welcomed the university’s newly appointed Pro-Chancellor, Senator Hadi Abubakar-Sirika.

She stated, “Among the academic staff, 19 were promoted to the rank of professors, 20 to readers, 31 were promoted to senior lecturers, 17 to lecturer I, and 26 to the rank of lecturer II. In addition, 36 staff were converted to various cadres and upgraded to higher ranks.”

The statement added that the council approved a 100 per cent upward review of the wages of university cleaners.

It said the decision represented a significant milestone in the institution’s ongoing pursuit of academic excellence and transformative development.

It further noted that during the meeting, Mr Abubakar-Sirika reiterated his commitment to advancing the university.

He stated, “He also met with the leadership of all four In-House Unions of the university, pledging loyalty, support and cooperation in working together as critical stakeholders for the institution’s progress.”

According to the statement, the council expressed satisfaction with the leadership and the manner in which the university’s management has been administering the institution.
