Veteran Nigerian actor Oyewole Olowomojuore, known widely as Baba Gebu, has passed away following a brief illness.

The news was shared by Nollywood actor and producer Kunle Afod on his verified Instagram page on Wednesday. Afod described Baba Gebu as a “great legend” who died on Tuesday after a short battle with an undisclosed ailment.

“It saddens my heart as I announce the passing away of our great legend, a great actor who passed away this evening after a brief illness… BABA GEBU, may your soul rest in peace,” Afod wrote.

Baba Gebu had a long and distinguished career in Nigerian cinema, especially in Yoruba-language films, where he starred in many acclaimed productions and mentored younger actors.

In 2024, he spoke openly about the passing of his wife, saying that returning to acting helped him cope with grief and avoid depression. Colleagues, including Kunle Afod, provided support as he continued his work in the industry.
