Nottingham Forest have sacked head coach Nuno Espirito Santo and appointed Ange Postecoglou as his replacement, the club confirmed on Tuesday.

The decision ends weeks of speculation over Nuno’s future at the City Ground, with Forest moving quickly to bring in Postecoglou, who has built a strong reputation for winning trophies across several countries.

In a statement, Forest said Postecoglou takes charge immediately, bringing “over 25 years of coaching experience” from his time in Australia, Japan, Scotland, and England.

Postecoglou first made his mark with Brisbane Roar in Australia and Yokohama F. Marinos in Japan, winning league titles with both clubs. At Celtic, he delivered a domestic double in his first season and followed it with a treble, which earned him a nomination for FIFA World Coach of the Year in 2023.

He later moved to Tottenham Hotspur, where he guided Spurs to a fifth-place Premier League finish in his debut season before lifting the Europa League trophy in 2025 — the club’s first major silverware in 17 years — and securing Champions League qualification.

Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis said Postecoglou’s track record made him the right man to lead the club’s next phase.

“We are bringing a coach to the Club who has a proven and consistent record of winning trophies,” Marinakis said. “His experience of coaching teams at the highest level, along with his desire to build something special with us at Forest, makes him a fantastic person to help us on our journey and achieve consistently all our ambitions.”

Marinakis added that the club must now aim higher after years of steady growth. “After gaining promotion to the Premier League, then building consistently season after season to secure European football, we now must take the right step to compete with the very best and challenge for trophies. Ange has the credentials and the track record to do this, and we are excited he is joining us on our ambitious journey.”

Nuno, who took charge in December 2023, had kept Forest in the Premier League last season but faced rising pressure after a poor run of results this term.

Postecoglou will take charge of the team ahead of their next Premier League fixture this weekend.
