Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has declared Wednesday, August 20, 2025, a public holiday to mark this year’s Isese Day celebration.

The announcement was made in a statement on Monday by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Olanike Adeyemo, in Ibadan.

Adeyemo explained that the governor approved the holiday to allow traditional religion worshippers and other residents of the state to celebrate the occasion.

“His Excellency has therefore requested that the occasion be used to pray for the peace, unity and stability of the state in particular and the country in general,” the statement read.

The government also asked that the governor’s approval be widely publicised so that residents and civil servants across Oyo are fully aware of the work-free day.

“Kindly give His Excellency’s approval, as conveyed, the widest publicity it deserves,” Adeyemo added.

Isese Day is observed every year to honour the cultural heritage, values and traditions of the Yoruba people. It has also been recognised as a holiday in several states across the Southwest.
