Nollywood actress Evan Okoro has voiced serious concerns for her safety, alleging that threats to her life have intensified following the breakdown of her marriage.
Okoro, known for her role as ‘Doctor Maria’ in the film Sexy Investment, took to Instagram to speak out about her current ordeal, claiming she has been living in fear since separating from her estranged husband.
She described the marriage as unbearable and one she deeply regrets. According to her, the union was never formally sealed, as her bride price was not paid—a situation her family recently tried to rectify without success.
“This marriage is not working. The shoe I took home is not my size. They didn’t pay my bride price, and my family recently called them to come and do it properly,” she stated.
Recounting a recent incident, Okoro claimed the relationship became toxic when her husband tried to take earnings from a business trip she made to Lagos. She said his behavior turned violent after she refused to hand over the money.
“I got a little money for an advert in Lagos, less than my normal endorsement fee. He wanted the money, and when I refused, he got angry. He didn’t even call to check on me after the trip. It’s been over two weeks now,” she said.
The actress also accused her estranged husband of jealousy over her achievements, asserting that she has received neither emotional nor financial support.
“He’s jealous of my success. I built that house myself. I started it before he came into my life.”
Okoro revealed that she has reported the matter to the police and is now speaking publicly out of concern for her safety.
“I’m not asking anyone for money. I just want to finish my house and focus on my life. If I keep living like this, I will go down six feet,” she warned.
