Popular relationship coach Kingsley Okonkwo has urged women to shift how they view their partners, advising that they see their men not just as lovers or equals, but first as leaders.

In a recent message shared with his followers, Okonkwo explained that this change in perspective could strengthen relationships by fostering greater respect, even when a partner isn’t perfect.

“Ladies, I want to tell you something you might not like — your man is not primarily your friend, lover or mate, he is first your leader,” he said.

Acknowledging that the advice might be unpopular, he continued, “If you don’t see him as leader you will struggle to respect him.”

Okonkwo compared the dynamic to how people often treat figures of authority, despite their flaws. “If you notice you are able to treat your boss, father or pastor better in spite of their actions, the reason is because of where you have placed them in your heart — not because they are perfect.”

He concluded by saying that viewing a man as a leader could unlock deeper aspects of the relationship. “It’s a small shift in mindset but it makes a big difference. Once you are able to see him as leader, you will unlock the friend, lover and partner in him,” he said.
