NiMet predicts three days of sunshine, cloudy weather

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has forecast sunshine and cloudiness across the country from Tuesday to Thursday.

In its weather report released on Monday, NiMet stated that the northern region would experience mostly sunny skies on Tuesday, with a few clouds. However, isolated thunderstorms may occur later in the day in Adamawa, Kaduna, and Taraba States.

For the North Central region, NiMet predicted a mix of sunshine and clouds in the morning, with a slight chance of thunderstorms in the Federal Capital Territory, Benue, Nasarawa, and Kogi States. By afternoon or evening, thunderstorms are expected in parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Plateau, and Kwara States.

“In the South, there are chances of morning thunderstorms over parts of Cross River and Akwa Ibom States. Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms are expected over parts of Imo, Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Abia, Anambra, Delta, Lagos, Rivers, Cross River, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom States,” NiMet stated.

On Wednesday, NiMet predicted sunny skies with a few clouds in the northern region, with possible thunderstorms later in Kebbi, Zamfara, Taraba, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, and Kaduna States.

For the North Central region, the morning is expected to be mostly sunny with some cloud patches. By afternoon or evening, thunderstorms could occur in parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Benue, Kwara, Niger, Kogi, Nasarawa, and Plateau States.

“In the South, cloudy skies with sunshine are expected, along with morning thunderstorms in parts of Ogun, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, and Bayelsa States. In the afternoon and evening, isolated thunderstorms are likely in Ekiti, Osun, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Anambra, Enugu, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Delta States,” NiMet reported.

By Thursday, NiMet projected sunny skies in the North with a few clouds, while isolated thunderstorms may occur in Taraba in the afternoon or evening. The North Central region is expected to have a similar weather pattern, with thunderstorms anticipated in Benue, Kwara, and Kogi States later in the day.

“In the South, cloudy skies with periods of sunshine are expected in the morning, with chances of isolated thunderstorms in Cross River, Rivers, Lagos, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom States. Later in the day, thunderstorms may occur in Ekiti, Osun, Oyo, Ondo, Ogun, Ebonyi, Imo, Abia, Edo, Lagos, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta, and Rivers States,” NiMet added.

The agency advised people to stay hydrated by drinking enough water and to remain in cool, well-ventilated places, as high temperatures could cause heat stress.

NiMet also encouraged the public to take preventive measures against meningitis by getting vaccinated, maintaining good hygiene, avoiding crowded spaces, and using nose masks when necessary.

“Avoid peak sun hours (noon to 3 pm) and protect yourselves from direct sunlight. Strong winds may precede thunderstorms, so people should take precautions,” NiMet warned.

The agency further urged airline operators to obtain weather reports from NiMet for flight planning and advised residents to stay updated on weather conditions by checking NiMet’s official website at www.nimet.gov.ng.
