Nigeria to honour Lagbaja for seven days

President Bola Tinubu has ordered that Nigeriaโ€™s national flags be flown at half mast for seven days to mourn the passing of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja,who died on Tuesday night after a prolonged illness

He was appointed by Tinubu on June 19, 2023, and served the nation until his passing.

In a statement on Wednesday, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, conveyed the presidentโ€™s condolences, stating, “President Bola Tinubu has expressed regret following the death of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, after a brief illness.โ€

โ€œThe President has directed that national flags be flown at half mast throughout the country for seven days in honour of the departed Army chief.

โ€œHe profoundly appreciates the services of the departed to the nation and wishes the family the fortitude to bear the great loss.โ€

The president acknowledged the Army chief’s dedication to the nation and extended his sympathies to the bereaved family.
