Samsung posts record quarterly profit as AI chip demand surges

Samsung Electronics has reported a record operating profit of 107.4 trillion won ($80.3 billion) for the July–September quarter, with its semiconductor division generating nearly all of the earnings as the artificial intelligence boom fuels demand for advanced chips.

The South Korean technology giant recorded consolidated revenue of 195.3 trillion won ($146 billion), marking its fourth consecutive quarter of record financial performance.

According to a regulatory filing released on Thursday, operating profit surged 783.1 per cent compared with the corresponding period last year, while revenue climbed 126.9 per cent. On a quarter-on-quarter basis, revenue increased by 13.9 per cent, while operating profit grew 20.1 per cent.

Samsung’s Device Solutions Division, which manages its semiconductor operations, contributed 106.5 trillion won ($79.6 billion) in operating profit during the three-month period. The division accounted for approximately 99.2 per cent of the company’s total operating earnings.

The results underscore the growing importance of semiconductors to Samsung’s overall financial performance as expanding artificial intelligence infrastructure increases demand for chips and pushes prices higher.

With its chip business delivering the overwhelming majority of quarterly earnings, Samsung’s latest performance highlights the financial impact of the AI-driven expansion across the global semiconductor industry.
