Lagos man arraigned for starving, assaulting 11-year-old stepson

A 45-year-old man named Aramide Tito appeared in court on Monday, facing serious charges for allegedly starving and assaulting his 11-year-old stepson.

The case was heard at the Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court.

Tito, whose address was not provided, was charged with indecent treatment, assault, and attempted murder. He pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The prosecutor, ASP Clément Okuoimose, told the court that Tito committed these offences on August 17 at around 11:00 p.m. in the Oke Ogbe Area, Atura, Badagry, Lagos.

According to Okuoimose, Tito is accused of beating and starving his stepson for three days. During this time, he allegedly poured hot water on the boy while he was asleep. The prosecutor further claimed that Tito attempted to murder the boy during this period.

The offences are said to violate Sections 135, 245, and 230 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

Chief Magistrate Mr. A.J. Aina granted Tito bail in the sum of ₦100,000, with two sureties required in the same amount. Each surety must be gainfully employed. The case has been adjourned to September 25 for further hearing.
